Christina Deverall
My name is Christina Deverall, and I teach sixth grade and middle school Social Studies at New Jerusalem. I was born and raised in Tracy. I received my Bachelor's degree in English at CSU Sacramento and my teaching credential at CSU Stanislaus. Prior to full-time teaching, I was a substitute teacher with Tracy Unified, which provided me with an opportunity to be in the classroom and work with children. This made me realize how much I love teaching.
I enjoy teaching the middle school students here at New Jerusalem; I think it is a great age group that provides unique learning opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom. Whether it is a class discussion during Social Studies or simple conversation, I find myself learning from my students all of the time and enjoy the insights that they provide on the world. It is also great fun to attend Science Camp each year and spend time with my students outside of the conventional learning environment.
I believe the close collaboration between staff and parents makes New Jerusalem a special school, both as a learning environment for the students and as a work environment for the teachers and staff. There is a feeling of "jamily" here, which provides a safe and comfortable experience for the students.
Having attended a small rual school, I understand how difficult it is to transition to a large high school. It is my goal to prepare my students for this leap.
I hope to instill within each of my student a sense of self confidence and drive, along with a thirst for knowledge that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.
